Plant-based bioengineering plastic "DURABIO邃「" has been adopted for Casio "PRO TREKツョ," a watch brand for nature lovers

August 1, 2022

We are pleased to announce that the bioengineering plastic "DURABIO™," developed by the Mitsubishi Chemical Group, has been adopted for use in the bezel portion of the outdoor watch "PRO TREK® PRG-340" from Casio Computer Co., Ltd. (Casio). This product will be released by Casio starting from August 5, 2022. This is the first time that "DURABIO™" has been adopted for a watch part application.

Part in which DURABIO™ has been adopted

"DURABIO™" is a bio-based engineering plastic made from the renewable plant-derived raw material "isosorbide." Its use can reduce the consumption of petroleum, which is an exhaustible resource, and can also contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases since the plant that makes the raw material absorbs carbon dioxide during the growth process. Additionally, it has superior performance compared to conventional general engineering plastics in terms of impact resistance, weather resistance, heat resistance, etc. Furthermore, it is also characterized by its high designability, such as jet blackness that can express deep black, and moldability that can realize detailed processing. These excellent characteristics match the concept of Casio's watch brand "PRO TREK®," which resulted in the adoption of our bioengineering plastic for this purpose.

"DURABIO™" is being widely adopted not only for automobile interior and exterior parts, but also helmets and other items, and we will continue to focus on further expanding its applications.
